Bluffton, OH

The CNC Machinist is responsible for independently setting up, operating, and optimizing 5-axis machining centers to produce custom, precision-machined components in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications. This role requires advanced machining knowledge, including machine setup, program editing, tooling and fixturing selection, and the ability to determine and adjust cutting speeds and feed rates to ensure product quality, dimensional accuracy, and efficient production. The ideal candidate will be capable of troubleshooting machining issues, performing routine machine maintenance, and completing complex machining assignments with minimal supervision.

This individual must be willing to work 2nd shift, Monday through Thursday (4 days per week), for at least 5 years. In addition, all 2nd shift positions receive a $4.00 shift premium.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute machining processes, determining the most effective machining sequences, fixturing methods, tooling selections, and work holding strategies to maximize efficiency and maintain part quality.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation to determine machining requirements, tolerances, and appropriate manufacturing methods.
  • Select, install, and adjust cutting tools, fixtures, and work holding devices based on material requirements, part geometry, and machining operations.
  • Independently troubleshoot machining issues, identify root causes of dimensional inaccuracies or equipment performance problems, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Perform machine setups, tool changes, offsets, and program adjustments as necessary to ensure accurate and efficient production.
  • Inspect machined components using appropriate precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy and compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and assist with troubleshooting mechanical.
  • Safely handle, transport, and position raw materials, tooling, fixtures, and finished components using appropriate material-handling equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while adhering to established safety procedures and manufacturing standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and share machining knowledge with other team members as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations and production objectives.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • 5 years of progressive CNC machining experience, including advanced machine setup, operation, troubleshooting, and process optimization.
  • 5 years of hands-on experience operating and setting up 5-axis machining centers.
  • Advanced proficiency with Siemens and/or Mazatrol CNC controls, including the ability to navigate controls, make program modifications, adjust machining parameters, and troubleshoot operational issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently set up and machine complex components with minimal supervision.
  • Extensive experience interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and machining specifications.
  • Strong understanding of metric measurements, dimensional tolerances, precision measurement techniques, and applied mathematics.
  • Extensive knowledge of cutting tools, tool geometry, tooling applications, work holding methods, and fixture selection.
  • Advanced understanding of cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cut, machining strategies, and their impact on tool life, surface finish, and part quality.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve complex machining challenges while maintaining production efficiency and quality requirements.
  • Experience selecting appropriate machining processes and developing effective setups based on part design, material properties, and production requirements.
  • Ability to perform dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments and determine whether components meet engineering specifications.
  • Experience troubleshooting machining equipment and identifying opportunities to improve manufacturing processes and reduce cycle times.

General Requirements:

  • Demonstrates a high level of technical expertise, sound judgment, and independent decision-making.
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing machining assignments with minimal supervision.
